Slacking

Wednesday, 18 June 2008 01:40
I know it's been a long time since I have added any new content here.  And it's not that there hasn't been anything to talk about.  In fact, there has just been too much going on.  Most of it is the same old boring stuff.  We are still trying to finish up the projects at camp.  We still haven't been able to get the boat in the water.  We still have a lot of work to do at home on some old projects.  And I still keep coming up with new projects to keep me even busier.

But on top of all that, Dave and Denise bought a house, and moved in last weekend.  Brenda took some pictures, so I'll try to get them uploaded this week and post a little more about it.  Helping them move was a good reminder to me that I never want to move.  They had a lot of stuff, but if we ever move it would be a nightmare with all the stuff we have collected over the past 14 years.

Well that's it.  I'll try to post some more soon.

Memorial Day

Friday, 23 May 2008 01:54
It's the holiday weekend! Well almost. We are heading up to the lake after work (big shocker there, I know.) We have some more work to do on the bathroom, and hopefully we can get outside and get some work / relaxation done out there. The boat lift has to get in the water, and gardens have to be tended to.

The weather doesn't look too bad, hopefully it will warm up for the unofficial beginning of Summer. Woohoo! I know some of you will be traveling this weekend also. If you are traveling, travel safe, and most of all, Have a great weekend. Also, let's not get all wound up in the celebration of summer, and forget the real reason we all get a day off.
From Wikipedia:
Memorial Day is a United States Federal Holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May (observed in 2008 on May 26). It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it was expanded to include those who died in any war or military action. One of the longest standing traditions is the running of the Indianapolis 500, which has been held in conjunction with Memorial Day since 1911. It is also traditionally viewed as the beginning of summer by many, since many schools are dismissed around Memorial Day.

So enjoy this Memorial Day Weekend, but don't forget take a few minutes to honor all those that have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

The Final Stretch

Tuesday, 13 May 2008 02:26

We are getting down to the wire. Spring is flying by, and summer is knocking at the door. I can tell by the appearance of Brenda's tulips up at the lake that my time for working inside on projects is just about over until Autumn. So I really need to get things in gear and finish up the bathroom.

This weekend we made some decent progress. We installed the rest of the tile backer board, and sheetrock, and started tiling the tub surround. We are about half way done with the tile, so next weekend hopefully we can get the rest of it up, and be ready to grout.

The only other thing left to do is paint, and get the shower curtain up. Hopefully we can decide on colors, and have it all done Memorial day weekend. I also have pictures of the finished vanity. It really does look nice after all the hassle from granite and marble works.

It's just about time to finish up the outdoor bar that we started in the fall, and get the boat in the water. I guess we will also have to figure out how to deal with $4 plus gas prices for the summer... yikes!

Happy 70th!

Happy Birthday Aunt Lucy!

Last Friday Night was the surprise party. It was great to see the family, and Aunt Lucy was surprised. The food was good, the company was good. Everyone had a good time. Here are a few pictures from the party, and of course there are many more in the Gallery.

Kathy, if you have more pictures, and you want me to add them to the site, just email them to me. I'll be glad to add any pictures you have.

Bad business

Monday, 05 May 2008 03:01
So, if you have been paying attention, you already know we have been doing some work at camp. Well part of that included new vanities for both bathrooms. The vanity for the upstairs guest bathroom was a standard size, so we picked up an inexpensive granite top with under-mount sink at Home Depot. All in all it was a good deal, and we really loved it. The problem was the vanity for our master bathroom was a standard cabinet size, but they do not make a standard granite top in that size. So we either go back to a laminate top in our bathroom, or order a more expensive custom top. We went with the custom top.

I called around, and on the recommendation of a friend found Granite and Marble Works located at 8 Commerce Park Drive, Wilton, NY 12831. Unfortunately it turns out they do crap work, and only seem to care about customers with big orders (our order was a relatively small counter top.) I would recommend that if you are in the market for granite or marble that you DO NOT select Granite and Marble Works.
