Tile Time

Thursday, 03 January 2008 02:38

Well the time has finally come. We took the week between Christmas and New Years off from work, and spent the time up at the lake working on the tile project. We were able to get a lot done, but not quite as much as I wanted to.
Most of the tile in the kitchen and main area is complete. There are just a few cuts that need to be finished, and a little bit of tile in the front closet. We also built a new cabinet under the kitchen sink, and installed the new dishwasher. The doors for the cabinet are cut out, and just need the laminate applied. hopefully this weekend I can finish up the remaining few tiles, and get it all grouted, then it is on to the downstairs bathroom next. It was a tiring week, but worth it. We did take a couple of days to rest, but honestly I can't relax until I get it done.
Here are some pictures from the week. there are a bunch more in the Gallery.

Need media?

Well, it's that time of year again when we seem to use our printer the most.  It seems like every time I need to use it we are out of ink.  When I am looking for cheap ink I turn to the Internet.  One of the online stores that I have used for years is I have always bought blank CD and DVD media from them, and to be honest, I didn't even know they also sold ink cartridges until now.  So when I saw that they have great prices on the ink that we need, I was ecstatic.  Now I have another reason to love  Not only do they have the blank media that I always need, they have CD jewel cases, DVD cases, memory cards for cameras, iPod accessories, and more.  I love this store.

Better late than never

I thought I would post some pictures of the island being torn apart. We didn't take any pictures of it all back together. that will have to wait until the next time we are up I guess. Of Course there are more pictures in our Gallery under Projects.

Two front teeth?

What did you get for Christmas last year? Was it exactly what you would have picked for yourself, or was it something cute, but useless? Are you tired of not getting the gifts you really want for Christmas? Well, has launched a new contest that could help you out. The All I want for Christmas Giveaway gives you the opportunity to register for the gifts that you would like to win, up to $1000. Simply register online, and you are on your way. Then browse through the thousands of products that has to offer, and select the one that you would like to win. It’s all pretty simple. Oh and if you tell 5 of your friends about the promotion, you could win prizes for them also.

Overstock has so many items to choose from, the hardest part will be trying to select one thing that you really want. I might look for a guitar, maybe this Fender Starcaster Package that they have for only $299.99, or maybe I would splurge on some kitchen gadgets, like this high tech Espresso Machine that is $849.99. Decisions, decisions, this could get tough.

Well, what are you waiting for? While I look around trying to find the perfect “gift” to win this year, you should head over and sign up.

More work

Well things got a little crazy this weekend at the lake. We started out pulling up the rest of the linoleum in the kitchen, but that wasn't good enough. Somebody had us convinced that we can't live without a dishwasher, so I went out and got one to install as part of this project. I had taken some measurements, and thought it wouldn't be much of a hassle to make room for it.

I was wrong. The island in the kitchen was all custom built, and dropped in place as a single unit. In order to make room for the dishwasher I had to tear it pretty much completely apart. We did manage to get it all back together, and we have room for the dishwasher. I did break the faucet in the process though, so that will have to be replaced now. In the end, it wil lbe worth it, but it took most of the day Saturday to tear it apart, and get it back together, plus I still have some building to do around the dishwasher, and to make doors for in front of the sink.

I can never just keep projects simple, not that this tile was going to be simple anyway. I'll try to post up some pictures of the demolition later.
