My mom always made these for the holidays when I was a kid. I remember my job was always to chop the walnuts and not eat all the dough before she baked them. These are a very dry not too sweet cookie that is great with a cup of coffee or tea.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup butter - softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- Marachino cherries cut into quarters
- Confectioners sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Cream butter and sugar until smooth
- Beat in vanilla
- Stir in flour and chopped nuts
- Shape into 1/2 inch balls, stuffed with a piece of marachino cherry
- Bake 15 - 18 minutes
- While still warm roll in confectioners sugar
- Let cool, roll in sugar again when cooled
