Today is the day... at last. After nearly two years of this campaign I am beyond ready to vote. To be honest, I can't wait until it's over. This campaign season has gone on way too long.
You've probably noticed that I don't discuss politics on this site, and I am not going to start today. Today I just want to remind people to exercise their right, and privilege to participate in this election. Republican or democrat, Green party or anarchist, go out today and vote. If the media predictions of record breaking turn out are correct, you will have lots of company at the polls.
Good luck, and have fun |

I know it's a bit late for a Halloween post... but this is not entirely about Halloween. I noticed last week that one of the fire stations on my way to work was having a blood drive on Friday. I have been wanting to donate for a while, but have just never gotten around to it. So Friday I made sure that I left myself some time to stop by the fire station and donate.
If you've never given blood, I would encourage you to do so. It only takes about 30 minutes to an hour with most of that time being subjected to health related questions like, Have you ever shared a needle with someone? Have you had a sexual encounter with a homosexual martian? etc... All in all, it was an easy process, and to be honest, it feels good to know you are helping people in need.
I was given the option to donate double red blood cells. It's an interesting process

where they take a units of whole blood, separate it and give you back your plasma and some saline, then do a second draw of whole blood, separate it and return your plasma and saline again. During the final return phase, all the donor’s other blood components are returned to him/her along with the saline, thereby replenishing most of the lost fluids.
So go out and schedule an appointment to give blood, or just show up at a blood drive. It's easy... I'll be donating again on Feb 20th (that's when I am eligible to give again.)

| | I don't know why... guess I am just in a strange mood... but I thought I'd write a haiku today. I haven't posted anything here is a while, and there really isn't much new going on in our lives. So here goes:
Election Year - by Scott P
leaves again falling
economic turmoil
hope for the future
Boy wasn't that inspiring? Maybe I'll have some new stuff to write about soon... Or maybe I'll make haiku a regular addition...

| | Well, we tried out another new recipe this weekend. This time it was a fantastic dessert! A Decadent tripple layer chocolate cake. The center layer is an almond flavored cheesecake, and the frosting is a cream cheese, almond chocolate frosting. It really is amazing. I am not sure how I don't weigh 400 pounds when Brenda cooks stuff like this on weekends.
The recipe is in our desserts section. Give it a try.

Have you ever wanted one of these?
I know I have. How great would it be to come home from another crappy day at work, and relax in your very own sauna for a little while. Or even better, after doing yard work, or after your workout?
I know that with the joint problems that I have, that relaxing in a far infrared sauna for a little while would be great. And surprisingly they aren't all that expensive. Check out the Infrared Saunas that i found online. I expected they would be more expensive than that. Maybe I can find space for one in our house, and convince Brenda that we should get one. Hey, I can dream can't I?
